Laminotomy surgery performed by Laser Spine Institute’s experienced Tampa surgeons
Living with pain greatly reduces a patient’s ability to fully experience and enjoy life. At Laser Spine Institute, the most common spine conditions we treat are all associated with nerve and spinal cord compression. Often, this compression is caused by natural degeneration during the aging process. The symptoms generally associated with these types of compression-related conditions include radiating numbness, pain, weakness and tingling. At our surgery center, we understand the impact these symptoms can have on daily activities, which is why we are committed to helping patients find relief in the most effective and efficient way possible.
Before recommending any surgical procedure, it is always beneficial to experiment with different conservative treatment options. These can include water therapy, massage, chiropractic care and physical therapy. For most patients, these treatments will greatly reduce the compression-related pain and symptoms. However, for a small percentage of people, conservative options will not succeed in offering any relief. In these cases, surgery is recommended as the best treatment option.
Laser Spine Institute offers these patients assistance through our laminotomy procedure. During this procedure, the surgeon enters the area of the condition through an incision that is less than 1-inch in length. Through this small incision, the surgeon will insert dilating tubes in order to stretch the muscle without tearing or cutting. Once the largest tube is in place, the surgeon will insert the tools needed to complete the procedure. During the procedure, he will remove any material that may be compressing the nerve roots or spinal cord, thus eliminating the severe symptoms. After the procedure is complete, the surgeon removes the dilating tube, allowing the muscle to fall back into its natural place.
